Our four churches belong to the United Church of Canada, the largest Protestant denomination in Canada. Ours is a rich history closely entwined with the development of Canada itself.

The four congregations are joined together as one pastoral charge, known as South Mountain-Hallville Pastoral Charge, which belongs to the Seaway Valley Presbytery which is within the Montreal-Ottawa Conference.

Stop in at the Wonder Café and join in the open-minded discussion and exploration of spiritual topics, moral issues and life's big questions, brought to you by the people of the United Church of Canada.

Our beliefs are reflected in four documents that have been developed over the years since the United Church of Canada was formed in 1925. These documents, The Basis of Union (1925); The Statement of Faith (1940); A New Creed, 1968 (revised in 1980 and 1994); and Song of Faith (2006); show the progression of our faith journey over time. Here we offer you the new creed.

A New Creed

We are not alone,
we live in God's world.

We believe in God:
who has created and is creating,
who has come in Jesus,
the Word made flesh,
to reconcile and make new,
who works in us and others
by the Spirit.

We trust in God.

We are called to be the Church:
to celebrate God's presence,
to live with respect in Creation,
to love and serve others,
to seek justice and resist evil,
to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,
our judge and our hope.
In life, in death, in life beyond death,
God is with us.
We are not alone.

Thanks be to God.

The South Mountain-Hallville Pastoral Charge serves a large, rural, agricultural-based community in Eastern Ontario, south of Ottawa, Canada’s national capital.  Its coverage area includes parts of the townships of North Dundas and North Grenville.

Many people who live in the area commute to Ottawa to work.  It is about 40 minutes to downtown on Highway 416, or by other routes.  This gives us ready access to urban amenities and services, while enjoying the benefits of a quiet and safe rural lifestyle.
