Call to worship: Psalm 66: 1-5 (ESV)
Shout for joy to God, all the earth;
sing the glory of his name;
give to him glorious praise!
Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!
So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you.
All the earth worships you
and sings praises to you;
they sing praises to your name.”
Come and see what God has done:
he is awesome in his deeds
towards the children of man.
Family of God, from whom does our help come?
Our Help comes from the Lord,
the maker of heaven and earth
Let us Worship God
Prayer and confession
God ever creating, ever loving, ever leading…
(The Minister Continues in Prayer)
And so, desiring to be a transformed people,
we bring to you our prayers of confession
(Silence)
Merciful God, you call us to fullness of life
but we have settled for so much less.
We have wandered from your ways and wasted
your gifts. We ignore the pain of others,
and turn our faces from injustice.
At times we have hidden from the truth,
especially when it calls us to do
what we are afraid to do.
We have given up in despair
when problems around us seem overwhelming.
Forgive us our small faith.
Give us courage to listen
and respond when you call. Amen.
Assurance of pardon
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Scripture: John 1: 35-42
The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” he two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “So you are Simon the son of John? You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter[or Rock]).
May God bless to our understanding this reading of Holy Scripture
Amen
Affirmation of faith: The Apostles' creed
I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
He descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand
of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.
